How can we help

The new Embassy is the  focal point of the British presence in Iraq. Its objectives are to develop close ties with the Iraqi Government and assist the Government and the Iraqi people with the process of reconstruction after the Saddam era.

The Political Section of the Embassy (or Chancery) promotes bilateral and political relations between the UK and Iraq, and keeps Ministers in London informed of major developments.

The Department for International Development makes up the largest section of the Embassy, and includes a number of consultants advising Iraqi Ministries on a range of subjects.

The Trade and Investment Section promotes UK Trade & Investment in Iraq, providing services and advice to both British and Iraqi businesses.

The Press and Public Affairs Section works with local, national and regional media to publicise information about Britain and British Government policies in Iraq. It offers a range of general information and publications about the UK and British culture.

The Consular Section provides emergency consular services to British Nationals in Iraq. It issues emergency British passports, and registers births and deaths of British subjects in Iraq.

The Defence Section is responsible for all aspects of the defence relationship between the UK and Iraq, including training assistance for the new Iraqi Ministry of Defence.

There is currently no Visa Section in the Embassy. Full visa services can be obtained from other British Embassies world-wide. The British Embassy in Jordan is the closest to Iraq, and is located in the Abdoun area of the capital Amman.
