British Embassy Baghdad welcomes oil and gas mission to Iraq (09/10/2009)

This weekend sees the arrival to Iraq of a UK-Government supported trade delegation from the oil and gas sector that will visit Baghdad and Basra.  This demonstrates how far things have come in Iraq.  The trade and investment fields are areas where there is great scope to build partnerships as the bilateral relationship between the UK and Iraq continues to grow.

The delegation comprises six companies of varying sizes that are all very competent and very keen to establish sustainable business relations in Iraq.

The British Ambassador to Iraq, HE Christopher Prentice, commented:

“I am very encouraged by the demonstration of commitment that these companies have shown in coming here.  They understand that business is best conducted face to face whatever difficulties that may entail.”

He added: “This group brings to Iraq a range of skills from the UK.  Their competences cover: engineering and project management; oil and gas related chemical technology; exploration and production; and energy resource development skills.  I am very hopeful that during their time here, they will establish good contacts in Iraq in order to develop long term business relationships.”

The delegation includes the following companies: AMEC; Aubin; Cairn; KCA Deutag; Premier Oil; and RPS Energy.  The British Embassy will arrange meetings for the delegation on Sunday 11 October and invites Iraqi companies who think they have the potential to work with them to email: baghdad.commercial@fco.go.uk
