Welcome to the official website of the British Embassy in Iraq. The UK is continuing to develop a broad-based bilateral relationship with Iraq, after the drawdown of British combat troops earlier this year. This will see close co-operation in a range of areas, including economic, commercial, development, defence, cultural and educational relations.

Iraq paves the way to elections next year

The FCO welcomed the announcement on 6 December that the Iraqi Council of Representatives have reached agreement on a law to govern the parliamentary elections.

British Ambassador Calls on Deputy PM Nouri Shawees

British Ambassador John Jenkins met with Deputy Prime Minister Nouri Shawees on Monday 01 February. The two discussed recent developments in Iraq and the importance of boosting Iraqi-British bilateral relations. The British ambassador reiterated the UK's support of the Iraqi political process in the runup to the parliamentary elections in early March 2010.
